MHC’s Sheehan Recognized by NAMI Davidson County

MHC is pleased to announce its Director of Staff Development Steve Sheehan was presented the President’s Award by NAMI Davidson County on October 20.

“Tonight we honor a true champion and friend of NAMI Davidson County and of course for mental health consumers across Middle Tennessee,” said NAMI Davidson County Board President Gregory Fisher.   “With the help of his devoted team of colleagues, Steve has helped spearhead each of the Mental Health Cooperative’s partnerships with NAMI from organizing a Walk Team that raised over $6000 this year to inviting us to give ‘In Our Own Voice’ Presentations at every New Employee Orientation to staffing booths at the Employee Fairs in order to make sure our programs and services are readily available and seen in the community.”

Sheehan started his career at Parthenon Pavilion in 1975 as a Mental Health Tech.  He worked in community and mental health and private practice before arriving at the Mental Health Cooperative as the Clinical Director of Emergency Psychiatric Services in 1998.  In his current role he plans and oversees all agency training needs, provides individual and group supervision of all license eligible staff; and facilitates “clinical staffing” around complicated consumer situations.

“Steve is known at MHC and throughout the community as someone who will give you the shirt off his back,” Fisher said.  “He gives of his time generously to anyone who needs help or guidance.  His gentle and nurturing approach combined with a small dose of straight talk has guided many to get back on track over the years.”

MHC’s Director of Advocacy Evelyn Yeargin and Director of Compliance Kim Speakman were also recognized as founding board members of NAMI Davidson County.
